Recently, University of Sanya (USY) and Sysmatic Education Group International (SEGi) signed a cooperation agreement regarding jointly establishing the China Malaysia Future Institute (CMFI). On 28th October, the two university leaders held an online ceremony to unveil CMFI’s plaque. The establishment of CMFI is a decisive arrangement for USY to focus on international talent training and accelerate the cross-disciplinary internationalization, as well as an important initiative to respond to national strategic needs, Hainan Free Trade Port construction and serve the local economic and social development.

At the ceremony, Prof. Lu Dan, President of USY, said that the name of China Malaysia Future Institute vividly reflects the bright expectations of both sides for the future development of education in China and Malaysia and both universities will have more co-programs on the basis of the previous cooperation. He hoped that both sides, anchored in their respective advantages in terms of location and educational characteristics, will make good use of CMFI, in which the international education resources and programs feature prominently, to cultivate more excellent talents to meet the needs of the international community through useful exploration and effective practice in discipline settings and talent training in fields such as new energy, chips and big data.
Professor Liu Kai-nan, Executive President of USY, said that the establishment of the CMFI would help to achieve mutual complementarity in disciplines and sharing of teaching resources between USY and SEGi University. The two universities will precisely match the needs of society to promote the deep integration of industry, teaching and research as well as the digital transformation of higher education. Both sides will keep exploring a new track for the sustainable development of international cooperation in higher education and new areas for the high-quality university operation through mutual learning and sharing by learning from each other, cooperating in development, sharing with each other and coming to a win-win.
CMFI is an international education platform for the integration of both universities’ superior resources and the collaboration on innovation. CMFI’s Malaysian headquarters is located at the Kota Damansara campus of SEGi University, and the China headquarters at Sanya. There are three offices in China, which are set up at University of Sanya (Sanya, Hainan Province), Geely University of China (Chengdu, Sichuan Province) and Xiangsihu College of Guangxi Minzu University (Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region).
As a one-stop comprehensive education platform for international education, CMFI offers degree programs encompassing Bachelor, Master and Doctorate, as well as various programs including academic English courses, overseas studying preparatory courses and quality-oriented courses.
